Lymphedema Treatment

Combined Decongestive Therapy: The Gold Standard for Lymphedema Treatment
At Bisa Dobson Massage Therapy, we use Combined Decongestive Therapy (CDT), a systematic approach to Lymphedema Management that includes:
  1. Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) - This rhythmic, hands-on therapeutic technique is designed to boost the normal functioning of the lymph vessel system and reroute accumulated fluid in congested (swollen) areas of the body toward healthy, functional lymphatic pathways.
  2. Compression Therapy - Using compression bandaging or garments to apply external pressure to the body to clear congestion. (N.B. Our clinic offers ADP Authorization for Lymphedema Compression Garments)
  3. Skin Care - Promoting the hygiene and health of the skin through various techniques and suggested products, to prevent skin degradation or infection.
  4. Exercise - Based on the physical capabilities and interests of the client, recommendations and guidelines regarding the type, frequency, duration and intensity of physical activity to alleviate the symptoms of lymphedema are provided.
  5. Education - Providing patients with the skills and knowledge they need to successfully self-manage their symptoms, including education on: the structure and function of the lymphatic system, lymphatic self-massage, and the many self-care techniques they can use to prevent flares up and improve their overall quality of life.
